DECISIONS, DECISIONS!!
New Year's Eve is right around the corner (actually it's closer than that -- try TOMORROW NIGHT!!) and the options here in Dubai are endless! Every hotel restaurant is cooking up something special for the evening and every restaurant with a view of the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab or the Atlantis Hotel have put together tremendous packages.
There will be magnificent fireworks displays at all three locations above -- and, undoubtedly, they will each be something to behold!!
Here is a sampling of some of Dubai's New Year's Eve events that we can choose from. Remember, Dhs is short for Dirham. Just divide the total cost in Dirhams by 3.65 to see how much it will cost us in US dollars!

LOVIN' THE LEADERS!!
The United Arab Emirates is made up of seven different Emirates. Dubai is one of the Emirates. The Ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the UAE is Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum.
Sheikh Mohammed is a well respected leader throughout Dubai and the other Emirates. I have yet to hear one negative thing spoken about the man. They absolutely love him here!
Our Sheikh is on the left and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is on the right. He is the President of the UAE and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi. See, I told you they love their Sheikhs around here!!
Can you even imagine what would happen if a huge picture of Obama was strung across one side of the Empire State Building?
On another note: The boys will be here TOMORROW!!!!

RECIPE FOR A PERFECT MORNING!
We woke up early this morning to a louder than usual "Adhan" or "Call To Prayer" and a wonderful cool breeze blowing in through our dirty-but-open window.
After nearly five months of living here in Dubai, the five times a day "Call To Prayer" doesn't sound annoying any longer. It was actually kind of peaceful this morning....
To make it even better, a spunky Teddy came bounding in full of energy and demanding his breakfast! (That certainly made my day!)

Then off I went for a pleasant 30 minute stroll to Tips N Toes for a much needed mani and pedi!!! But first, of course, I had to stop at one of my favorite places to grab one of these.....
It was the perfect morning for a walk as the sunshine was nice and warm and the shade was cool and delightful!
Needless to say, my Tips N Toes appoinment went well and now the only worry I have is.....
.....white or black? Ah yes, this is a recipe for a perfect morning!
And don't forget.....THE BOYS ARE COMING AND THEY'LL BE HERE THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW!!! WOOHOO!!

OH NO, SAY IT AIN'T SO!!
I looked out the window -- it was, as always, a perfect, sunshiny day!
I packed my pool bag -- water, towel, book, phone, and lotion!
I had already walked Teddy so he was a-okay to leave for a few hours! (He keeps getting better and better!)
I rode the elevator downstairs to the pool and found this....
Oh no, say it ain't so!! Let's just hope the pool really does open on the 31st in time for Jon and Jas!! Keep your fingers crossed -- I know mine are!!

CHRISTMAS IN DUBAI!!
What does Christmas feel like in Dubai? Well, IT IS celebrated here -- as a matter of fact, our First Christmas In Dubai weekend literally started off with a bang....

And instead of a white Christmas like back home, we were knee-deep in beautiful marigolds!
Our sky was a beautiful blue the entire weekend and our buildings
were as spectacular as ever!
And Santa did come to the UAE....he really did!!
On Christmas Eve John and I went to the Souk Madinat Jumeirah for dinner. We walked around first as there was a delightful Christmas Festival going on with lots to see and smell. And Christmas music was playing!
It was so much fun! The weather was absolutely gorgeous -- a perfect night to be walking about! And the festival was so.....so Christmasy!
There were activities to keep the adults happy and activities to entertain the children....
Then John and I saw something we had never seen before....bubbles, huge bubbles with people inside of them!
We stood there forever just watching the people bounce around in them! Sorry, the videos are a bit dark but you just have to see this!!
Soon it was time to head to the restaurant where John and I both decided that we just had to order a traditional turkey dinner. It was ohhhhh sooooo good!!! We had some pictures taken (of course!)....
And then we proposed a toast to each and every one of you! CHEERS!!
After our wonderful dinner we drove downtown to St. Mary's for midnight mass. We really didn't know what to expect. All we knew was that Christmas carols would be sung starting at 11:30PM.
When we were about a mile away from the church we started noticing a lot of people walking. John turned to me and asked, "You don't suppose these people are heading to church, do you?"
Well, guess what? He was correct! All of these people, as well as thousands (literally) more, were indeed church bound! John dropped me off and went to find a parking spot and I joined in the march to St. Mary's! The crowd was absolutely unbelievable!
When I finally entered into the church's courtyard it was filling up fast! I learned quickly that the church was full and that the halls were full! Our only choice was to stand in the courtyard, shoulder to shoulder
amongst what John estimated to be about 7-8 thousand people!
The choir started singing Christmas carols. A nice breeze was blowing. People were excited. Children were dressed to the hilt!
There were Christmas lights and Christmas trees and a platform built where seven priests celebrated mass.
John and I agreed it was the most memorable midnight mass we had ever attended! It just goes to show you that no matter where in the world you are, Christmas is a joyful holiday to be celebrated!
And that is what Christmas feels like in Dubai! The only thing missing, of course, was you!
